How to Sponsor an Animal in Need

Ever wonder what happens to stray dogs, cats, and other unwanted animals that are rescued from streets and factory farms?

These animals end up in shelters and sanctuaries like ours, where people take care of them until a forever home is found for them. In the case of non-domestic animals, this care is for the rest of their lives.

If you’ve ever owned a dog or a cat, you know how much it costs to take care of them. Imagine what is cost to care for a larger animal. The expenses for food, medicine, and everything else they need to live comfortable lives is covered by these shelters and sanctuaries.

Animal shelters and sanctuaries are run mostly by volunteers. While they selflessly give their time and resources, they can only afford so much. As a result, many animal shelters and sanctuaries look to sponsorships for help.

If you want to help keep a rescued animal happy and healthy until it finds a permanent home, you should consider sponsorship.

What does it mean to sponsor an animal?

When you sponsor an animal, you are ensuring that it survives and lives a happy and healthy life for the duration of their stay at the shelter.

It usually takes over a month to find a forever home for a domestic animal, so during their stay in the shelter, they are provided with everything they need – food, water, medication, and love.

Sponsoring an animal requires that you make a donation. The money from your donation goes a long way and covers everything from heating their kennels to buying their treats.

Why should you sponsor?

If you’re ready to adopt a domestic animal, that’s great! But being a caretaker comes with a large responsibility. If you cannot have an animal in your home for one reason or another, the next best thing you can do is to sponsor.

Sponsoring animals in need will give you that amazing feeling of being able to help even if you cannot have them in your home. Sponsoring an animal also means you are giving them the best life best life possible while they await a permanent home.

What does adoption fee sponsored mean?

One of the reasons why some animals cannot be rehomed as quickly as possible is because of adoption fees. These are fees that a new caretaker must pay in order to ensure that the animal they are adopting is safe for rehoming. This fee covers the cost of vaccinations, neutering or spaying, grooming, and other needs that need to be taken care of.

If you choose to go for adoption sponsoring, you are making it easier for an animal to begin their life in a new home. The person adopting will only have to pay a reduced adoption fee or not have to pay at all, making adoption that much easier!

You are guaranteeing that a rescued animal get rehomed as soon as possible.

So how much does it cost to become an animal sponsor?

Well, the answer may surprise you!

The amount depends mostly on you, but also, the kind of animal you wish to help, however, sponsorships usually range from $5 to $40 per month. There are also options for a one-time sponsorship, but recurring donations go further in helping with rescued animals since the funds go towards more than just the needs  of one single animal.

Where do your donations go? If you choose to donate $30 every month for the care of one or more animals, your donation will go towards more than just food and general care. It will go towards medications, vitamins, vaccinations, vet costs, clean bedding, and the occasional treat.

The donation you make also goes towards general upkeep of the shelter itself. You’ll help keep fences up, heating bills paid, and basic maintenance needs met. By keeping the shelter in good condition, you’re helping ensure the continued wellbeing and safety of rescued animals.

What do you get out of sponsoring an animal?

Aside from the feeling of satisfaction that you’ve done something good, you’ll get monthly updates on the animal you are sponsoring and a certificate. You’ll also get pictures of the animals you are helping to take care of. Additionally, you’ll get a collection of vegan recipes as a bonus
